My grandmother, Anna Hruskova (daughter of Martin and Anna Hruska) married my grandfather, Matej (also known as Michael Chicken) Slepicka in 1879 in Chicago. I believe they were in the US by 1869-70. The family also used Pear (and feminine, Peary) as Americanizations (translations) of their family name. Michael and Anna lived in Minneapolis from about 1880-81 until their deaths. Nine children were born in Minneapolis, among them my father, Fred Chicken. By then most of the family was using the Americanized version of Slepica (no "k") instead of Slepicka.
