>I am descendant of Tecumesh thru my dad`s mom`s side-Barker-Edgell-Trader-Ice-Galloway.
I must tell you that Tecumseh himself was never actually a Chief-
yes, I've heard and read quite a bit about him. I knew he was not a Chief of the whole tribe but was a war leader of the interdivisional fighters.
>Tecumseh predicted that his 7th generation would be regathering the tribes-& this has been my desire to unite with all my fellow tribes-descendants of our Great tribal leader Tecumseh.
I was wondering if anyone was doing this; is there a group of people working on this?
>Do you have a quere I might help with?
In some parts of my family there has been a rumor of descendancy from Tecumseh. I will point out that no one has said it was documented or even true...only rumored. If I remember correctly it had to do with a third marriage of Tecumseh and may have something to do with children of Henry Harvey the Quaker missionary to the reservations while they were in Ohio and later the reservation in Kansas.
As I've said, I've done a fair amount of reading on the topic and, as you may know, what is written is often contradictory and I suspect often false. I'm approaching this from the perspective of a family (Flint) historian and genealogist. To me it is just as valuable to document we are not descendant from someone as it is to show we are (I can not trace my Shawnee family history prior to 1830 when we arrived on the Kansas reservation).
Just to help with what I do know:
my Shawnee gggrandfather was Levi Collins Flint (born approx. 1828), he married Stella Ann Harvey (born approx. 1835)...she was Omaha and French. I know her father's name was Raymond (I suspect he was the French side)
Levi's father was Joseph Flint and his mother was Jane (Qua-he-kah); I don't have dates for them.
In order for any of the rumors to work, I'm guessing there would have to be a connection through one of those people. Quite frankly, between all I've read and what know about my family, there appears to be a disconnect; but as I said, finding out one way is just as good as finding out otherwise.
Most sources state Tecumseh had one son with
one wife, and some sources say he had another son with another. However, with the exception of descendants through Thomas Alford, I haven't seen much genealogy on the topic.
I understand some descendants do not wish to give out family information any further than necessary, that is why I included my family information as far back as I can go so you can see if there is any connection then share what information you are comfortable with.
