There is a “family story” that my grgrandfather, William Scott Wofford had a half brother who fought for the South during the Civil War, and they crossed paths once during the war. Wm Scott fought for the North. Wm Scott knew it was his half brother, but didn’t want to hurt him, so, as the brother was rushing by on his mule with his coat lapels flying, Wm Scott shot through his coat lapel. The family member who told me this back in the 70's,
did not know the half brother's English name, but had heard the story many times with the Cherokee name. I asked him to repeat it several times, and I wrote it down as "oo wes ta nv". Is there anyone who might help with this Cherokee name? He also said the half brother ran a store in Vinita Oklahoma, where Wm Scott once visited, and was invited by the half brother to come back and bring his family. Wm Scott Wofford was the son of James Daugherty Wofford.
