Classification: Query
Surnames: Arason, Arrison, Martin, McMinn
I am Cindy Lavinia (Aarson) Balogh
I am looking for someone with some information on my family history as I am trying to write about my history for our children.
My Grandfather and Gandmother of particular interest to me.
Ari Arason of Icelandic decent
Born in 1888 in Pembina, North Dakota, USA
Died in 1943 in Fort McMurry, Alberta, Canada
I do not know who his parents were only that they came from
Iceland some time after 1874 I think.
Ari Arason Married Marry or (Marrie) Martin listed on my fathers birth certificate as being of French decent only it is
known with in the family that she was Cree -- Matis Canadian Indian and French Decent I suppect that this was done to hide the fact that she was a half breed as in 1900-1902 the time of her birth it was not a good idea to anounce that you were a half breed. I do not know the time of their marriage but it had to be some time between 1914 to 1920 as my father was the forth born child in 1924 to be born to Ari Arason and Marry Martin of eight children in all. Marry Martin was said to have lived the later part of her life in Urainium City, North Saskatchewan, Canada. She die in Edmonton, Alberta of Brest Cancer which is not surprising because she lived in Urainium City and a lot of people die of cancer that are from that area because of the Urainium in the air.
My father Name is John Patrick Arason born in Fort McMurry Alberta, he became a Dimond driller and owned and operated a very successfull business by the name of Arason Exploration Dimond Drilling untill he lost it due to alcoholism. John Patrick Arason was born 1924 and died in 1977 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
I have not been able to find a death record, birth record, or marriage record of Ari Arason or Marry(Marrie) Martin who would of die Marry(Marrie) Arason. All of my stories come from fracmented peices of data from my mother who does not remember much about any of the family members on my fathers side. Marry Martin was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Some of the names that I do have are of my fathers siblings
as follows: Joe Arason -- Adopted out and probably lived in an orphanage at a young age in Northren Manitoba-- died of alcoholism, Malven Arason-- no data, Millie Arason --- died ? was a prositute as the story goes and a drunk, Hellen Arason -- no data, S. Arason probable Susan Arason -- married a US Army man I think, ? Arason -- Female Forth Worth Texas -- married some mob guy so the story goes my dad apprently did not like this guy. And Joice Arason married a Tom McMinn and was said to have resided in Alberta, probably Edmonton. 5 girls and 3 boys born to Ari Arason and Marry Martin.
Ari Arason was said to have died in Fort McMurry, Alberta of a gunshot wound to the head self inflicked, because of gambling debts.
Questions that I am seeking some answers to are as follows:
1.) Where did Ari Arason meet Marry Martin?
2.) Which group of Icelandic settlers was Ari Arason born into and where did the group travel and settle. I know he started in I think in Pembina, North Dakota, USA and end up in Fort McMurry, Alberta, Canada.
3.) Where were Ari Arason and Marry Martin married and when were they married.
4.) I would like to get a hold of a birth certificate of Marry Martin.
5.) I would like to get a hold of a death certificate of Marry Martin.
6.) I would like to get a hold of a marriage licence of Ari Arason and Marry Martin.
7.) If Marry Martin was listed French on my father birth certificate, but was Cree--Matis then that would mean that
she probably had a French Father who might of been with some of the early settlers that worked with as a Fur trader or the Jusuits, I only say this because of the trail of cities that they traveled and the trail of cree and Icelandic people in the later part of the 1800's form about 1888 to 1924 at least.
8.) Which group of Icelandic people the ones from Pembina, North Dakota, that traveled up the Red River, or the group of Icelandic people that traveled from Gimli up the saskatchewan river or any other route to get to Fort McMurry,
and did they travel through Regina because this is where Marry Martin was born.
9.) Marry Martin was 24 years old when John Patrick Arason (my Father) was born and Ari Arason was 38 years old when he was born.
10) What was his occupation? Fisher man, Traper, Farmer, I think it was probable Fisher man someone who fished the rivers between North Dakota, Manitoba at Gimli, to Regina or up to lake Athabasaca, up in and around Fort McMurry, and in the northren part of Manitoba and Sackatchewan and Alberta.
So that this is so long I wanted to get as much information out there in the hopes that someone will remember these people and help me find out more information. Because I can not find any records of these people. Maybe I am looking in all the wrong places. If any one knows these people or any thing about my family please email me. It will be much appreciated. Cindy Lavinia Arason Balogh -- I married a Hungaran - Dutch man ha!!! Our children what a compo plate that is. Thanks you all....
