There was a proposed Air Force Base that construction was begun on in Southeastern Wisconsin (Racine County I believe) that was named after Maj. Richard Bong.
Eventually, construction was stopped due to the furture conflict of air traffic with Milwaukee being on the North and Chicago being on the South. The base was to be part of the old Strategic Air Wing of the Air Force and to have B-52's stationed there. The time frame would have been in the early to mid 1950's.
I believe the concrete poured for the runways and aprons are still there but have no idea of any buildings ever going up.
