Re: Tinkler gypsies of galloway - please help
Hi
I borrowed the Tinkler Gypsies book from my local library. It was fascinating. A short book of photos from the original book was issued by Dumfries and Galloway Museum Service (Stranraer Museum) and cost less than £10.
My gt.uncle told me that we were descended from the famous Marshall clan but that they were rogues and cattle rustlers! I have traced my Marshalls back to Creetown, Wigtownshire, in 1841. Alexander Marshall (whitesmith/tinker)was the patriach married to a Jean/Jane Marshall. His eldest son was a William Marshall and there were eleven siblings, one of whom was my gtx2 grandmother. I have a cross (fate line) on the palm of my hand as did one William Marshall in Andrew McCormick's book.
