CCC Camp pictures building 3C Highway in Ohio

My father and grandfather worked together on the 3C Highway project. Several pictures are posted to my Clark Family Tree on Ancestry, person: John Samuel Clark. They lived in Campbell County, Kentucky - so I am not sure if the pictures are taken in Kentucky or Ohio and do not know which CCC camp they are from. I cannot identify anyone else in the pictures. I can email photos to anyone interested. Any additional information appreciated.

My dad entered the Corp when he turned 18 in 1933, I believe. The only information that I know is that he was fighting forest fires in Oregon. My brother thinks it was near an Indian reservation. Anyone have a family member in that area? He returned home by 1940.

If you write to the Archives, will they be able to find discharge papers without a camp number and exaxt date? Is there an index to a database to search by name?

Peggy Sanders
HC 56 Box 86
Oral, SD 57766
(605) 424-2795 peggy@rapidnet.com

The National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni (NACCCA) was organized as a non-profit in 1977 and has held national reunions throughout the country. October 5-9, 2005 will find the group in Rapid City, South Dakota for the 28th annual reunion.
Membership in NACCCA is open to anyone interested in the CCCs, not just alumni. Go to www.cccalumni.org for information becoming a member. (The twenty-dollar membership is not required for those who wish to attend the reunion.) You will also find information on The CCC Museum and Research Center located at the NACCCA Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. The website has reunion details and a registration form. With just a hint of the activities mentioned here, we will take a chartered bus to visit several CCC camps and the tour will include lunch, and excursion time, at Mt. Rushmore.
As the chairman of this national reunion I would greatly appreciate it if you would please help spread the word. If you have a newsletter, please include a short blurb. If you make presentations, it would be appreciated if you would include the information; you might even wish to include www.cccalumni.org in any handouts or post it in a conspicuous place. Perhaps you can contact area historical groups and even get a mention is your area newspapers.

We would also welcome you to attend. You will notice we have obtained a good hotel price and have arranged for those rates before and after the conference dates. If you drive, the parking is free; if you fly in, the shuttle is free (by special arrangement.)

If you have any questions for either myself or for NACCCA, please feel free to ask.

Okay I've been to all the sites and learned about the CCC but I have one problem. I don't know wich company my grandfather was in and I also know he was in different states at different times. There are many different CCC museums in Iowa, like Dundee, Arlington, ect. Can I find info there like rosters of the participants or do I have to go to St. Louis to find something like that? I really don't know where to begin with just his name. Any suggestions for me? Appreciate any pearls of wisdom. Cheri Daniels-Lee

My father, Virgil Rodgers, served in the CCC from 1935 to 1937. I am looking for anyone with relatives that served in the CCC. Virgil was in Comapny 743, Camp Hedges at Camp Pike, Ark. This was on the White River near Calico Rock. Virgil was in Barracks B. I have a book titled "My CCC History". It is like a yearbook for the men in the camp.
Any help on finding service records is greatly appreciated.

Judith Storm

I would greatly appreciate any info in finding a copy of this photo, is their an archives that have photoes of the different units. His name was Russell Losty aka George Losty.
The Death Valley National Park Library has an incomplete set (23 issues) of the Civilian Conservation Corps newsletter, which started off as the Thor Shun ("Pueblo Indian word for rising sun"), later transformed into the Death Valley Rattler, and then the Boca del Infierno ("Mouth of Hell").

Possibly some of you worked for the CCC, or maybe your father or an uncle was in the corps, and you might have a lead on some of the missing issues of Thor Shun. These newsletters have interesting historical information that is of interest to all of us.

If you have any leads concerning the above mentioned newsletters please contact me—thanks.

THE SIDNEY ARGUS - HERALD. September 23, 1937. "Club Members Told of Accomplishments of the CCC Camp. Checking Erosion Probably Most Valuable Prgoram".--Resume of work accomplished by the Sidney CCC camp since it was first established here in October 1934, was outlined by G. H. McMillian and D.D. Chicken, camp officials, before Community club members when they met Friday evening at Rucker's cafe.

Chief concentration of the camp has been upon soil erosion throughout the county. During the last three years 70 demonstrations bringing about water and soil erosion control on farms in Fremont county have been completed. Along with this work 37 miles of terracing has been accomplished. Another importnat project undertaken by the camp has been the planting of trees in the county.

Businessmen present expressed themselves as being well pleased with the coopreration that the Wednesday night promotion is meeting with. Shoppers have evinced such enthusiasm concerning the promotion that crowds are expected to increase steadily.
