Seeking Naturalization records from 1866
I am searching for the naturalization records for my ancestor. He came to the U.S. in 1859 and, according to an index at my local Family History Center, he was naturalized in October 1866 at the local county court in Cattaraugus County, New York. Trouble is, after contacting the county, they have no record of him. I'd like to pursue his records through the federal government but have found the NARA site quite daunting. Can someone advise as to how and where to request such records?
