If you live in the USA another couple of places you could approach with an enquiry would be the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) [established in the 1860s) who can be contacted via http://makepeace.ca/nehgs/ and the purely commercial organisation known colloquially as the American College of Heraldry who can be contacted at http://www.americancollegeofheraldry.org/
