The entire shield is silver and red, so, gules a couped (humetty?)cross argent, just like Switzerland.
Nana is first generation American. Her maiden name is Summers (Scottish,) although she told me it came from her mother's side, who was a Rattray. Rattray is a Scottish name, but they were actually from France -(prounounced it "RAT-ter-y") Normandy, Lille, and Jersey. Her mother's maiden name was Perchard. She also told me she wasn't supposed to have inherited it and that it was supposed to go with the male line, but somewhere along the line her mother ended up with it and entrusted it to her.
I have been trying to link up with the name Stacpoole. I did see that there were Stacpooles in Normandy and one in particular was given a Papal title... Ok, I don't even know what this means but I thought I'd throw it out there in the off chance it might have something to do with the Greek cross.
Viscount Richard de Stacpoole, was given the Order of St Gregory, and was created Marquis by Pope Leo X11 1828 for services rendered to the church...
Thanks so much for the interest and help. What fun!
