Trying to find the origins of James Christopher Egan born c1834, and his wife Sarah McVeigh, who may or may not have married in Australia around 1854. They may have arrived in Australia seperately, or met here. Their children, Madeline Kate Egan (married William James Bassett 1882) was born at Strathboggie (Aust)in c1860,Mary Ann Egan (married an Owen Egan from Kings Co, in 1878)was born at Murrumbidgee (Aust) in 1856, and 2 sons who died shortly after birth, Peter 1863 and Francis 1864. I am trying to find when my gg grandmother came to Australia. On her marriage certs (2 marriages) she claims to be born in Kildare Irealand. Her first marriage took place in 1857. I don't know how old she was as she has different ages on both marriage certs and death cert.

Can anybody please help me find any info (census or birth records) for my great grandfather James Hayes b 1843 & my ggm Mary Jane Purcell b 1855.

These are dates of their age from my grandfathers birth certificate so i guess it could be the year either side.

From the 1881 census it says James was born in Kilkenny. Thats the only lead i've got & its also a long shot Mary J was born in Cork.

I have a good idea they met in Liverpool but i cant find any marriage for them.

Any help would be great.

William was born in Ballincar, Sligo, Ireland 29 April 1864. His father was Jonathan Hunter and mother was Sarah Mullen. He emigrated to NSW, Sydney about 1880. He married, unknown, wifes name is unknown. I have a picture of him and his wife that was taken at the Falk Studio in Sydney.
From other researchers in Australia I have this other info but it needs to be proven:

William E Hunter married Caroline Crook in Lambton, NSW in 1889 2 children for Wm and Caroline
James W Hunter, born 1889 and Mary A Hunter, born 1891, Ida Hunter, born 1900
James W Hunter married Jane J Sims in 1914

I am trying to find details of a passenger of the ship Diadem, arrived Melbourne 1850.
My gr grandmother was on board:
Sharkey, Elizabeth age 17 from Omagh Co Tyrone.
How can I find more details on her in Ireland - her parents are unknown?
Where were the girls taken to as the 'depot' in Melbourne?
She worked for John English in Melbourne - he paid 10 pounds for six months.

Trying to find any information on James Currie Cowan born Newry County Down, Ireland in approx, 1886. He married Amy Elizabeth Hillier in 1916 in Townsville Qld. Australia and had a son with her - James Currie Cowan born 1919 in Ayr Qld. James Jnr. nickname was Jimmy and he had a daughter Glenys in the early 1950's. This is all the information I have and that is from birth and Marriage certificates I have. I also have Amy Hillier marrying a James Axgel Alfred Barnico Jorgensen in 1929 certificate in my possession. Not sure whether James and Amy divorced or he may have died. Any help would be appreciated.

O'Neil mystery in S.A.

My great grandfather Patrick O'Neil arrived in South Australia by 1860.

No convict records match him & I can't find him arriving interstate - so he must have been an immigrant.

Around 1858/59 several men by the same name arrived here & I have not been able to sort out which one he is.

I know he fathered a son (my grandfather) in 1861 at Myponga S.A.

The mother was Elizabeth Ann White - I've been unable to find any information on her.

Patrick remains elusive & after many years of searching I still don't know where or when he was born , where or when he died or is buried.

I know he married Catherine Gillies & lived around Willunga & Port Elliott. Their marriage certificate dated 1863 gave me no additional information - no parents & no ages were given.

At one stage I thought this mystery solved with a death certificate of Patrick from County Clare born 1835. But it was the wrong man. Since then I've purchased another 2 which do not fit my man.

I am now down to just 8 possible Patricks!

I just wish we were able to view those death certificates before we purhcase them. Some have no useful information on them at all - just the partner's name - if that!

If the number of living & deceased issue are not on the certificate - it will be difficult to prove that I've found him.

Any ideas as to how to find MY Patrick?

These are my great grandparents
Michael O'Dowd was born in Galway, Ireland married Ellen Manion in Wigan,Lancashire and immigrated to Qld ,after 2yrs went to New South Wales and was a miner in the Corrimal/Wollongong area. His father,Thomas, was a farmer and mother was Mary White.
Ellen Daly from County Clare came to Queensland and married John Henry Cutler. I do not know how I might find information on them prior to coming to Australia or records of the ships they arrived on. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

My maternal great-grandmother, Ellen O'Driscoll, is said to have been born c 1858 in Cork, Ireland. In 1874 she married -in Queensland, Stephen Smith Hardgrave whose parents also
originated in Ireland, probably County Meath, but Stephen
was born in Queensland.
I can find no records for Ellen or Stephen, except for the
data relating to their 1874 marriage.
They had 2 daughters, Theodora Grace Hardgrave 1878-1957,
& a younger one who died in 1882.
Does anyone know anything about Ellen &/or Stephen?

George was born in Donegal Ireland in about 1810 and married in 1832 in Donegal Ireland to Janet FAIRMAN
George and Janet Came to Australia on the Great Britain in 1874 with one of their sons Thomas and his family. Another Son Mathew James KILPATRICK also came to Australia but not on this Voyage Also other children of George and Janet but as yet I have not yet discovered when. They settled in the Mooroopna area (near Shepparton) in northern Victoria

I am trying to find information on my ancestors who arrived in Australia from Ireland. I have conflicting information on the date they arrived here. I have them arriving on the ship 'The Rattler' in 1852 and another entry suggests they arrived in 1840. Can someone give me a site where I can look up The Rattler? I have tried ships lists and a few others, but they don't mention this ship at all.
Name of family members are: John and his wife Elizabeth and a son named Ogle James Moore. Not sure on other children.

I am looking for any information on Bridget Murphy, daughter of William Murphy and Agnes Pendergast of Co. Wexford, Ireland. Bridget emigrated from Ireland/England to Australia in the early 1880's. I was told that she was a nurse and married and had childern.

Looking for any information on Catherine Sherlin, (this could be her first married name) who was born in Ireland about 1857/8, later married a John Dwyer in 1884, Reidsdale, Braidwood NSW. Unfortunately, do not know her maiden name. They had three (known) children.

My grandfather, John William Butler married my grandmother Ann Madigan in the cathedral, Kilkenny City, Ireland in 1929. On the marrige certificate he states he was from South Australia with parents William Butler, a soldier, and mother Mabel T Smedley. He apparently returned to Australia in 1931 and disappeared. Would be grateful for any information on him or Mabel Smedley.

I am looking for any and all information on my ancestors from Cork Ireland. The little information I have is that Thomas (my great -great grandfather) and his sister Mary Manning came to America with their Uncle Patrick Cavanaugh sometime between 1888 and 1893. I am trying to figure out the exact date and place that they arrived. Any information on them or anyone that may be related to them or that time period would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for information of my Great Great Grandfather James Martin Kelly who arrived in Sydney 13 Feb 1842. Apparently he was born in Abbeyknockmoy, Co. Galway.
I am trying to find out more about his parents, siblings etc.

John and catherine Griffiths came to Australia 1833 aboard the Edward Coulson they had Patrick ,John , Eliza, Martha Mary,Oliver 1year old. They used the name Griffiths on ship and changed to Griffin. catherine died 1840 and John died 1862 their son Oliver may be our link he married Eliza martin 1853 then Annie Arms widow of John Arms 1862 we think he was father to 8 of our line born between 1858 and 1877 Bloomfield property Murrurundi. these griffin children Robert 1858 John, Samuel, Eliza,Sarah,Caroline, William,Rachel were all born but not registered their mother Sarah Listed their names and ages on her death certificate 1902 at Blandford. N.S.W. These children i found on a lot of the missions during 1901 census. My husband whom is aboriginal comes down from Eliza Griffin married Edward beale 1888. Carol

William Murphy was born Killane Wexford Ireland in 1844 and supposedly landed in Melbourne May 14th 1869. I can't find any record of his arrival or indeed any information on his life prior to 1889. He married Emily Jane Lamb on 10th June 1889 in Barcaldine Queensland, and they moved to Winton Queensland in 1894 where he lived until his death on 5.12.1927. I would appreciate any information on his life prior to 1889.

Looking for descendants of brothers Edward & Arthur Ternan from Woodmill, Tullyallen, Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland who left to live in Australia. Arthur was born 1850 & Edward 1860 to Bridget Reilly from Crosswater, Co. Cavan & Edward Ternan from Tullyallen. Arthur may have had a farm in Australia, Edward ran a hotel called the "Yacht Club Hotel" in Nelson Place, Williamstown, Australia. Edward & Arthur had seven siblings:- Mary Goodwin, Thomas, Ann Russell, James, Judith, Bridget & the youngest was Rose McMahon (my great grandmother). I will gladly exchange information.
