Solving a mystery - Penuel Smith

Classification: Query
Surnames: Smith, Russell, Douglas, Mackenzie, Wildsoet, Hillier
Hoping someone will read this and know something to help me with this mystery.

So far I have traced the following information:

Penuel Smith b. 1854 parents John Smith and Mary Ann Russell from Elgin Moray Scotland

She had an illegitamate child with James Douglas - Jemima Jane Douglas born 1873 Elgin, Moray, Scotland.

She then married in 1877 Alexander Mackenzie born approx. 1858, a police constable from 1876 - 1877 also having a child with him - Elizabeth Mackenzie born approx. 1878

She then came to Australia, and the only name that matches her is a Pennel Smith aboard the Rodell Bay in 1878 and left both her children with her parents. I cannot find any information on Alexander Mackenzie coming with her or dying or even divorcing him.

She then married Marcus Wildsoet in 1880 and had about 5 children with him and he died in 1894. I have information regarding this family.

She again remarried Gilbert John Hillier b. 1866 England in 1895 and gave birth again to Amy Elizabeth Hillier in 1895.

I have spoke to a number of people from the Wildsoet side and they know nothing about her only her name. I have hit a dead end with all this and hope someone somewhere maybe knows something or can give me some ideas on how to find any more information out.

What I am trying to find out is what happened with Alexander Mackenzie, when did Gilbert Hillier come to Australia and what happened to her two children in Scotland Jemima and Elizabeth as I havent been able to find them after the 1880 Scotland census where they are living with their Grandparents John and Mary Ann.
Any Suggestions:
Julie
