Searching for William Lunan

I'm trying to find information about my great grandfather, William Lunan born in Alyth, Scotland in 1885.

I was told by my grandmother that he emigrated to Australia. I have found a William Lunan of the correct age on the Marathon to Victoria in 1909 (unassisted passage) but I'm not sure if this is the same person. Can anyone advise how I could find out if he died in Australia, I know that there is no record of his death in the UK.

Thanks

Edgar Taylor and May YOUNG (help most appreciated)

Edgar Taylor Young and his wife emigrated from Scotland to Australia between 1955 (birth of their son in Scotland) and 1960 (Edgar's death in Victoria, Australia). I don't know if Edgar came to Australia by himself initially and then sent for his wife and son. I have searched for old shipping records into Australia, but don't know where to go to find them for the period I need (1955-1960). Is there anyone out there who can help me track down the family's arrival details?

Ancestors of Robert McMillan of Glasgow

I am looking for ancestors of a Robert McMillan who emigrated to Australia between 1861-1866. He was born about 1837 in Glasgow and his mother and father were Catherine (Cathrine) Gray and Thomas McMillan. I don't think they married. From census results a Cathrine Thomas, widow, had a brother and nephew with surname Gray (which would make her maiden name Gray) living with her, as well as a son Robert McMillan. Robert's occupation both in Scotland and Australia was currier. Hoping someone can help.

Solving a mystery - Penuel Smith

Hoping someone will read this and know something to help me with this mystery.

So far I have traced the following information:

Penuel Smith b. 1854 parents John Smith and Mary Ann Russell from Elgin Moray Scotland

She had an illegitamate child with James Douglas - Jemima Jane Douglas born 1873 Elgin, Moray, Scotland.

She then married in 1877 Alexander Mackenzie born approx. 1858, a police constable from 1876 - 1877 also having a child with him - Elizabeth Mackenzie born approx. 1878

She then came to Australia, and the only name that matches her is a Pennel Smith aboard the Rodell Bay in 1878 and left both her children with her parents. I cannot find any information on Alexander Mackenzie coming with her or dying or even divorcing him.

She then married Marcus Wildsoet in 1880 and had about 5 children with him and he died in 1894. I have information regarding this family.

She again remarried Gilbert John Hillier b. 1866 England in 1895 and gave birth again to Amy Elizabeth Hillier in 1895.

I have spoke to a number of people from the Wildsoet side and they know nothing about her only her name. I have hit a dead end with all this and hope someone somewhere maybe knows something or can give me some ideas on how to find any more information out.

What I am trying to find out is what happened with Alexander Mackenzie, when did Gilbert Hillier come to Australia and what happened to her two children in Scotland Jemima and Elizabeth as I havent been able to find them after the 1880 Scotland census where they are living with their Grandparents John and Mary Ann.
Any Suggestions:
Julie

I am very interested in anyone with information on Scottish individuals and families arriving in VDL from 1803-1853.

I am an academic working within Australian history (and also Aboriginal Studies) and am currently reseaching a new book on Scottish immigration and identity. My first book looked at Scottish identity in colonial Western Australia. I am now researching Scots in Tasmania.

Any information used for my research will be duly noted for its source and individuals sharing information can be credited within my work, if they so wish.

I am looking to visit Tasmania for research this year.

I am a Scottish migrant to Western Australia so the connection and interest is obvious! Have been in WA for nearly 20 years (arrived aged 10).

Robert McMillan may have been married to Mary Jane Dalton.

I need to trace his immigration from Scotland to Australia because I keep coming to a standstill in my research.

I am looking for descendants of John Andrew born c.1852 in Houston, Renfrewshire, Scotland, son of James Andrew(1826-1857) and Elizabeth Marshall(1829-?). He emigrated to Australia, probably in 1878 on the Loch Sunart. He settled in Sydney and was a printer to trade. He married his sweetheart from Scotland and later sent for his mother who died in Australia probably around 1900. I am a direct desendant of his sister Jane.

Hello

I am looking fot make contact with someone who can give me further information about research done into the Daff and Dick families in Melbourne.

Looking at Family Search, there seems to have been a lot research on this family , in particular into descendents of Barabara DICK and Joshua Swallow DAFF carried out by Jean Whittle.

Barbara DICK was the daughter of David DICK and Barbara KIRK who emigrated to Victoria from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland on board the Merchant Prince in 1858 with their family.

Their children were:

Robert (b. 1838), John (b. 1840), Janet (b. betw. 1842 - 45), Mary (abt. 1845) David (abt. 1849), Barbara (b. 1853) and Jack (b. 1855)

I am descended from Janet, who we think emigrated again to NZ. Any contacts and / or details about this line would be gratefully greeted!

Many thanks
KESTON.

I have a copy of his army papers thanks to the NAA but would like to know when and where he arrived in Australia.
When he joined the AIF he gave his occupation as a farm labourer and his next of kin as Mrs James G. Binnie(Elizabeth Laird) of Letham, Airth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. James was a son from her first marriage.
A Mrs J. G.
Barwell Boys Scheme

Moved to Cherry Street Earlstone then to Hayes Cottages in Haydock.

Migrated to Australia in 1928 on SS Eurypedes and settled at Aldgate in the Adelaide Hills.

I believe there are still members of the family living in Lancashire and I hope to visit within the next couple of years.
