Judy,

I am a descendant of William Eli Sharlow originally Chaloux/Chaloup who was born Jul. 14, 1814 in St. Benoit, Quebec. He married Mary Euphrosine Cuillerier on Jan. 15, 1839 in St. Raphael, Ontario and then settled in Brasher Falls, St. Lawrence, NY (this is right near the St. Regis Reservation). They had 11 children and are the ancestors of all Sharlow's that currently live in that area today. I have been researching the Sharlow family for years and I am particularly interested in your post as I concentrate most of my research on northern New York.

We have a connection as your Francois Chaloup who married Madeline Fortier is my William's uncle. My William Eli Chaloux/Chaloup/Sharlow was the son of Pierre Chaloup and Angelique Legault dit Deslauriers. They were married Jan. 18, 1813 in St. Benoit, Quebec. Francois Chaloup was Pierre's brother. They were both sons of Jacques Chaloup and Marie-Anne Fauteux.

I understand your family adopted the Wolfe name. I had heard that some of the Chaloup descendants did this as the name means Wolf or "Call of the Wolf" in French. Did your Wolfe ancestors settle in St. Lawrence of Franklin county? I am currently going through the St. Benoit parish records, trying to decipher them and find all of the Chaloup's. Hope to hear from you!
