Hi!
I requested this message board for the use of all those whose families immigrated to Canada from the germanic states.
The request is because of my own specific families. All 16 of my great grandparents immigrated to New Germany (now Maryhill) Ontario in the late 1830's and early 1840s. These people came from places such as Schwaldorf in modern Germany, the Bavarias and of course Alsace Lorraine
Many of these immigrant's children setttled in such places as Formosa Ontario and areas of Saskatchewan.
Recently I have come across further migration to Michigan, the Dakotas and some of the southern states as well as the mining towns of Northern Ontario.
I close this first message to the board with a listing of some of my immigrant ancestors in the Maryhill area:
Chrysostimus ZINGER and Johanna ZETTWUCH, Ignatius HAUSER and Aloysia SCHLOSSER than re-married to Aloysia ZUBER, Peter Joseph KOLLER and Veronica MILLER, Anton MASSEL and Elizabeth MIHR, Joseph MASSEL and Maria Anna HURZIGER, Prodalas FLACH and Magdalena LINSENMANN, Joseph ERNEWEIN and Catherine OTT, Sebastien ERNEWEIN and Therese ANSTETT, Francis Antoine ANSTETT and Theresa Rothel, John Reinhart and Mary Ann Schenk.
About half of these folks moved to Formosa area in the 1870s
Anyone with any information on these peoples immigration dates etc. would be a welcome postee to this board!
Thanks!
