Welcome one and all

Hi!

I requested this message board for the use of all those whose families immigrated to Canada from the germanic states.

The request is because of my own specific families. All 16 of my great grandparents immigrated to New Germany (now Maryhill) Ontario in the late 1830's and early 1840s. These people came from places such as Schwaldorf in modern Germany, the Bavarias and of course Alsace Lorraine

Many of these immigrant's children setttled in such places as Formosa Ontario and areas of Saskatchewan.

Recently I have come across further migration to Michigan, the Dakotas and some of the southern states as well as the mining towns of Northern Ontario.

I close this first message to the board with a listing of some of my immigrant ancestors in the Maryhill area:

Chrysostimus ZINGER and Johanna ZETTWUCH, Ignatius HAUSER and Aloysia SCHLOSSER than re-married to Aloysia ZUBER, Peter Joseph KOLLER and Veronica MILLER, Anton MASSEL and Elizabeth MIHR, Joseph MASSEL and Maria Anna HURZIGER, Prodalas FLACH and Magdalena LINSENMANN, Joseph ERNEWEIN and Catherine OTT, Sebastien ERNEWEIN and Therese ANSTETT, Francis Antoine ANSTETT and Theresa Rothel, John Reinhart and Mary Ann Schenk.

About half of these folks moved to Formosa area in the 1870s

Anyone with any information on these peoples immigration dates etc. would be a welcome postee to this board!

Thanks!

Hello, I'm new to Canadian immigration and am seeking information on where ships arrived from Germany. I know not all of them came directly from Germany, some stopped in the British Isles. This would have been in 1881. The Vogelsangs lived in PA in 1884, then Buffalo, N.Y. but an obituary later stated they came through Canada. Any leads are appreciated.

Noulletts came to Canada from Odessa 1912

Mike Noullett (Noullette) and his wife Katherine Fries(z)came to Canada from Kherson, and Nikolayiev (sp?) via Odessa in 1912, landing at Halifax first, then on to Montreal (I think), and then by rail to Alberta where they homesteaded with two other families -- the Urlachers and the Peters -- on a homestead they called the Neudorf Colony. This homestead was near Camrose and Bawlf, Alberta.

I am trying to find these families before they left Kherson, and trying to find out how a Noullette (from the Alsace province, I think) came to be in the Ukraine.

Also, my mother (a grandchild of Mike and Katherine) was a devout Catholic, yet her mother (Mike's son's wife) spoke Yiddish and her surname was Hearsch or Hirsch -- some Jewish in there somewhere -- and the Neudorf Colony seemed to reflect Mennonite culture --

so I am confused how these three religious groups came into one, before they all came to Canada.

Pat Bacon, Calgary, Alberta Mike's great grand-daughter.

I have a great-great grandfather Xavier Conrad who married a Cunigunda. According to the 1880 Census he would have been born in 1847 in New York - parents born in Germany. He and Cunigunda (born in NY 1851, parents born in Germany.)
They had 5 children. At the time of the 1880 Census they were: (names and ages) Maggie 9, Catherine 6, Jacob 5, Lorenz 2, and Joseph 4/12 which I took to mean he was 4 months old. They were living in Brooklyn, NY. I would love to hear from someone who is part of this family tree.

NEUROHR FAMILY ~ GERMANY TO AMERICA

I am researching the NEUROHR family with roots in Germany. The names that I am researching are :
JOHN F. NEUROHR , WIFE AUGUSTA HAUCK NEUROHR and INFANT JOHN, came to America thru Ellis Island in 1909. I do not know the reason but JOHN F. NEUROHR used his brother JAKOB NEUROHR'S passport. The ship manifest stated that they were going to UNCLE PHILIP NEUROHR'S house.

PHILIP NEUROHR'S wife was ELIZABETH , his daughters are,ANNA , MARIA, EMMA E. NEUROHR.
PHILIP NEUROHR immigrated to America abt. 1882-1885,, The wife ELIZABETH had died by 1910 she was not on the census after 1900 and PHILIP NEUROHR is listed as widower in 1910. The daughters are all born in Ohio, I can not find PHILIP NEUROHR or the daughters after the 1920 census.

I know that there was a Grandfather of JOHN F.. NEUROHR living in ohio , and it is believed he may have died before JOHN F. NEUROHR and his family arrived in America. I do not have the name of the Grandfather, but do know that he had two daughters , I do not know their names , both the daughters married Irish Cops.

Upon arriving in America, the JOHN F. NEUROHR family went to Cincinnati Ohio, and after 1910 moved to Michigan .

JOHN AND AUGUSTA's children are: JOHN, MARGURAITE{MARGE] ,CHARLES, HELEN, JOSEPH, ROBERT, EDWARD, EDWIN, HERMAN,:

Any information is welcome, Please email me direct, CarNeuro@aol.com
Thank You: Carol Neurohr

Jaeck in New Germany, New Hamburg and Walkerton Areas

Hello Everyone:

I also have ancestors that settled in the New Germany, New Hamburg and Walkerton areas. Some of my surnames match those listed but I don't see a connection. However, listed below is a family history. If anyone has any links to this family, please contact me.

Thanks!
J. Robblee

Edward Jaeck born in 1815 in Soufflenheim Alsace Lorraine. Son of Francois Joseph and Catherine Von Hatten. He married Madelaine Schlosser in 1841. They had three children, Valentin, Louis* and Gustav. Family legend has it that he first settled in Pennsylvania and later moved to Woolwich Township and attended. St. Boniface Church. Later he moved to East Zorra Township and attended Holy Family Church in New Hamburg. In Canada, he married again to Margaretha Groh from Kossuth. Margaret was born on June 12, 1837. She was the daughter of Conrad Groh and Cebillia Deider. Edward and Margaretha had the following children, Gustav, Henry*, Philippina (Bena) married a Kauffman?, Antonette (Nettie) married a Kauffman?, Edward, George moved to Bad Axe Michigan??,Xavier (Frank)*, Magdalena*, John*, and Clemens*. Stars indicated that I have traced these families.

Also Edward's sister Catherine married John Bitschy and settled in the New Germany area along with a brother Joseph who married Josephine Mockers who settled in the Walkerton area. Also I have a two stray Jaecks, Philip, son of Philip and Catherine, born about 1866, who married Helen Roth, lived in the New Germany area. Frederick, son of Michael and Elizabeth, born about 1860, who married Catherine Diegel.

The surname has changed over the years. Our branch uses Yeck but other possible spellings are Yaeck, Yack, Jaeg, Yacht etc ...

My ggrandfather, Adam Reimiller, and his wife, Phillipina Wagner were German immigrants that lived in New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada in the 1870's. I believe they may have migrated to Texas and then Arkansas before setting in St. Louis, MO. Phillipina had two sisters, Mary Bannister, who died approx. 1945 in Canada, and Anna Wiedenhof (?), who was alive and that time and notified my grandmother of Mary's death. Phillipina also had a brother, Daniel, who migrated to Oklahoma.

I am trying to help a friend find ancestors. Friend is Willie Madche. He thinks his dad was named Arthur Madche or Medche. He was brought from Germany to Canada in the early 1930's by an aunt. He was about 1 year old. Evidently he had a twin brother and an older sister. Their whereabouts is unknown. Willie has a birth certificate that shows DOB 12-21-34, but other papers that indicate he may have been born in 1929. He was raised in a boarding house with his aunt, then moved to Montana. Does anyone know how I can track immigrants that came into Canada at this time? We would really like to help this friend. Any info would be appreciated.

About 1862 he married Mariea Uffelmann (who's family were from Honenzel, Germany) who was born in Ontario.Probably near Kitchener. They spent some time in Freelton, Ontario and headed north to Owen Sound where Mariea died (kicked by a cow, apparently) and the family proceeded on to the Manitoulin Island where they settled. Is anyone else looking into this Bayers family? I have Uffelmann family lines to share, still looking for more info about these Bayers. (Prior to 1860's)

Aloysia Zuber and Carl Ludwig Zuber of Maryhill

Hi:

I am looking for any information on Carl Ludwig circa 1840s in New Germany Ontario (now Maryhill) that could possibly connect him as a sibling or cousin to my g g grandmother Aloysia Zuber.

Here's what I know:

Carl and his family settled in New Germany around 1840 and from all accounts were quickly quite well to do. The 1916 book of Father Spetz's history of the diocese attributes Carl to Baden Germany but that is all I know. I believe he was buried in New Germany and later re-interred in Waterloo.

Aloysia was the wife of Ingatius Hauser who immigrated to the same area around the same time. Not much is known of these two prior to immigrating with thier son Joseph who was born in Baden in 1840 or earlier according to his marriage records of 1866.

I am hoping someone might be able to tell me the originating town of either of these two. If a Carl Zuber decendant has found his home town in Baden have they researched microfilm and do they have any tips on a) what films to look at b) what town and parish etc.

Thanks!

Phil Hauser
