As your note hints, there was more than one Lady Cathcart. I suspect you are not looking for the one who, in succession to Gordon of Cluny, held South Uist from about 1878 to 1932. There was an earlier one in the mid-18th century who introduced a lady Erskine to the painter David Allen of Alloa so that line might be a good place to start.
