I am researching the family of Margaret Mailer who immigrated from Scotland around the early 1830's. She settled in the Puslinch Township area with Duncan Mcfarlane b.1798. They had five children, Anne, Duncan jr., William, Peter and Andrew.

I have a hunch Margaret and perhaps her husband, Duncan, came from the Perthshire area of Scotland.

Any information would be appreciated.

Regards,

Lyle Jeakins

Immigration in 1860

Hello all. I have an ancestor that supposedly immigrated to Canada (Quebec?) in 1860. He was from Scotland. His birth was approx 1852 which would mean that his family (or part of it) came over with him. His name was Alexander Matthews. Can anyone suggest where I might find information on what ship, where they entered Canada etc.
Thank-you in advance

George Wilson and his wife Mary Yates left Scotland with their daughter Jessie (b. abt 1866) abt. 1879 and all I know is that they lived in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. That is where Jessie m. John C. Monahan of Pennsylvania in 1886 and they moved to Durand, Shiawassee Co., Mich., USA by 1892.

They had 2 other daughters that I know of. A Bessie who married someone by the name of O'Rielly and she was still living in 1949 when her sister Jessie Wilson Monahan died. The other sister was Christina Wilson Dixon and she too was still living in 1949. Both of these sisters were living in Montreal, Quebec.

There may have been a brother or two that became priest in Canada. They are not mentioned in the 1949 obit.

LynnsPL81@aol.com

Murdock served with the Guides & Pioneers Regiment during the Revolution and removed to New Brunswick after the War. In 1785, he transferred his land grant to his daughter, Ann. Family records show that Ann who was about 14 at the time and living with the Elias Wright family, was born in Scotland. She later married my 4th g.grandfather, James Pratt. Any information will be most appreciated.
John Shotwell
Whidbey Island, WA

Mills families of Nova Scotia

I am interested in finding out if the Mills families of Nova Scotia ... (especially of Cumberland County) originally came from Scotland?
My mother's maiden name was Mills and she always thought that she was of Scottish ancestry.

If there is no connection between the Mills name and Scotland, is it possible that the Hill families of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia originally came from Scotland? ... (That would be her mother's maiden name.)

Thank-you for any information. Sincerely,
Lynn Kempton-Lowe

Ships - Glasgow to New Brunswick - 1841/1842

Greetings Everyone. My Great Great Grand Parents left Glasgow to live in the Miramichi area of New Brunswick, Canada. John Craig went over in 1841 and his wife Elizabeth (Orr) travelled the following year with their son Thomas. I know they were there at the appropriate times as they appear on Census forms. While certainly ships did travel to Chatham/Newcastle in the Miramichi, I can't at that end find a trace of any from Glasgow during either 1841 or 1842.
Can anyone suggest alternative sources that I can check, please.
They were married in Kilbirnie/Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Thanks,
David
Cape Breton,
Canada.
dmpaterson@ns.sympatico.ca

http://groups.msn.com/ScotsinCanada
