Both sets of in-laws came from the same village (Stojanow,
Stoyanov, Stoyanuv, Stoyaniw or Stoianiv). My husband's father said he came from Tarnopol. His name was Papish, but on his immigration papers his name was spelt Papiz. Grandfather's first name was Stefan and his wife was Ewa Zawisliuk. They came to Canada when my father-in-law was 3 years old, approx. 1910.
My mother-in-laws family name was spelt Matewchuk (Matwijczuk, Matwywejizuk, Matwejzuk, Matwejchuk). Her family came in 1903. Her father's name was Andrij and mother's name was Anna Wojcichowsky. Andrew's father name was Ilia, and his father's name was Hryc. I don't know if they all came at the same time.
Any information is appreciated, but the most important to me now is the spelling of the villiage/town and what would be the most probable port they departed from.
Thank you
