Hi
thanks for all that, got all the census stuff and I'm not sure where the idea came from that he married a cousin of Cecil Rhodes because there is no record of this whatsoever!!! I have his marriage certificate to Frances in 1860 and as he would only have been 20 ish at that time, hardly time to marry twice one would have thought. there is no birth of the mentioned Rhodes lady in the records of this country either ~ maybe a bit of fanasy on someone's part that has been repeated enough times for it to be now considered as the truth.
I'm really after the immigration details of their voyage out to Aus.
