Sailing from Liverpool, England in 1911 to U.S. ending up in California

Classification: Immigration
Surnames: Meakins
Martha Meakins (53) widow & her two daughters Nellie (19) & Ivy (13) left Liverpool, England 4/30/1911 on the SS Grampian, Allan Lines. I have the manifest "Boarder Crossings from Canada to the U.S." It shows they arrived May 1911. In the family stories it says that Nellie age 19 says she saw the Statue of Liberty. How is this possible if they landed in Canada? On the manifest it also said the final destination to be Chico, California. I know they did make it to California as I have death certs.
My questions: could they have seen the Statue of Liberty & how? How would they have made it to California? Where would I look for this info? Thank You, Judy
