OK. It is only important that we relate our seperate experiences and share our individual knowledge.
I have no doubt spent a great deal of time searching and asking questions of the poster.... and like you have come up empty handed in Alabama census, even going to the point of searching in the mentioned area for anyone listing, Austria, Hungary, Czech, Slovak etc. and while I have found others in their neighborhood but not the OVAT/OVATH/OVATT nor OWAT (basing this on the German sound of W) and using the surname in the place of the given name on Ancestry....
So hopefully someone will hit it someday.
