Hi William,
I guess that one was for me?

You don't really know which ships they came on unless you can get a 'perfect' match. Sometimes that is really hard to get depending on the emigrants name, there might be several with the same very common name. Sometimes you can get more info, that corresponds with the info you get from the Swedish emigrant records, like destination. If you know where they came from (town of origin) and that is stated in the Swedish records then you hope to find the same information (like living relatives in Sweden) on the ship manifests. And also, depending on the time-line, it normally took 2-3 weeks to get over (more earlier and less later). So, it's all about 'luck' to match it sometimes and sometimes it's very easy to find the entry in the US. If you're not certain however, you have to check with the Swedish records, if you have enough information about the person. If you do, it's necessary to match the 'moving out' records to the emigrant records and immigrant records too. At times people would not leave their village at once or they could move out, live in another city for a while before taking off. That can be confusing, so sometimes you have to follow all moves to make sure you have the right person.

To get access to all (available) church records in Sweden you can go online to www.genline.se and subsribe to their services. You have a choise to read the information in English, but the reoordsa re all photo copies of the original sources so you'll have to be able to follow/read them.

If you have ancestors in the Southern part, Skane (Scania) you may be lucky to find them for free (though all that should be confirmed in the original sources to be sure you have the right poeple) on www.ddss.nu - also available in English, with lots of useful links etc.

Need more help? I'd be glad to assist and give you useful tips!

Susanna
