I am a second generation "Swanson." My grandfather left Kalmar, Sweden in the early 1900's. My father, his son, is deceased and nobody knows the details. However, my grandfather's original name was Carl, which was changed to Arthur when he arrived in the US. I believe he disembarked in Boston, but can't determine this. He had a family in Sweden and I think it was a large family. His father was a hip captain and somehow worked the Caspian Sea. There was talk of an "Axel", but I don't remember if that was a brother or the name of his father. He married another Swede, who was born in the US - her name was Alfreda Victoria Anderson. I visited Sweden many years ago and was shocked by all of the women with red hair and freckles; I too have this red hair and freckles and thought Swedish were basically blond, blue eyed, ultra white skinned people, but was wrong.
