The following is my Great Aunt's obituary. Her maiden name is Geier. Her mother's maiden name is Koch. She was born in Huck Russia.

Mary Elizabeth Liz HARDT, 100, passed away on June 1, 2003, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard.

She was born Feb. 19, 1903, in Huck, Russia, the daughter of Jacob and Eva Liz (Koch)Geir Sr. She arrived in the U.S. in 1913 and became a U.S. citizen on April 28, 1958.

She received her education in Lincoln. and was confirmed in 1917 at St. Johns American Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Liz resided there until the family moved to Western Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Fred Hardt Jr., on Nov. 26, 1922, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bayard. She made her home in McGrew for the next 71 years until moving to the Bayard Chimney Rock Villa in 1992.

Liz enjoyed oil painting. She knitted and crocheted numerous afghans and beautiful bed spreads. She planted hundreds of trees during her lifetime and enjoyed raising flowers.

Liz volunteered many hours at the Minatare American Legion. She and her late husband went on numerous fishing trips. Her favorite pastime was dancing. Liz was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard, where she spent many hours making butterballs and noodles.

Survivors include her two daughters; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Hardt Jr., infant son Herbert Vernon and Donald V. Hardt of McGrew; son-in-law Rex Coffee; grandchild Buff Coffee of Chadron;

brothers Jacob Jr., John, Phillip, Alexander and Victor Geier; sisters Mollie Hoover Fiedler and Pauline McKee, all of Mt., Clemens, Mich.
