14 instead of 16? People back then were brave, courageous and had such endurance! People now complain about a layover, imagine being on a boat for 12 or more days by yourself at that age. God bless your relative!
I would think the church record would be most authentic, but could that person be another relative? Sometimes people named there kids by Saints Feast Days, and also used the saints feast day as a birthdate. Prodominantly Catholic countries. That may explain the same first name, differant years. Surnames can be plenty in certain areas. My Great Grandmother actually had the same last name as my Great Grandfather. There were many Budzisz in the Polish areas. Upper and in Little Poland.
