It would appear that the PASSPORT APPLICATION, not the PASSPORT, has the notation "Passport Destroyed 4/14/23"
I don't think Hartridge ever received the passport. Fom the information in his passport application file, I deduce that the Passport Office tried numerous times to send him the passport, but was not successful.
There are a number of possible reasons for this happening:
a) He died between the date of submitting the application and the government's first attempted delivery.
b) The address he gave on the application for mailing the passport was insufficient (there was no street address) for the Postal Service to deliver it.
c) He was no longer employed by Miami Tire Co. (the address he wished the passport sent) or they were no longer in business.
The following timeline may help in discovering what happened to Hartridge/
6/4/20 - Gordon Thompson swears to a birth affadivit for Hartridge.
6/4/20 - Glenn Walters goes to the US District Court in Miami and witnesses Hartridge's affadivit.
6/9/20 - US District Court accepts his application and Hartridge pays his fee
6/10/20 - A passport is issued in Washington.
Between 6/12 and 7/7 at least 3 attempts are made to mail the passport to Hartridge. All apparently fail and the passport is eventually returned to Washigton.
4/14/23 - A clerk in Wahington pulls the undelivered and unused passport from the file and destroys it.
A stamped notion on the application states in part "a duplicate of this passport application has been delivered to the applicant and permission granted to leave the United States for Bahamas with said application."
His application states that he intends to sail on board "the first vessel after receiving permission."
It is possible that he left for the Bahamas between June 10th and June 12th without ever receiving his passport but using the application as his permission to leave. He is apparently not indexed in the Florida Death Register.

Another interesting tidbit. He may not actually have been living in Miami. On his 1917 draft registration, he gives his permanent address as Jacksonville, FL and his place of employment as Miami Beach FL, but his nearest relative as wife Gladys in Gainesville, FL.
