HI, I'm researching a UK Merchant Seaman, who I've successfully managed to trace from the boat he was listed on in the 1861 census to back to 1856 so far. However, on the last crew list I've viewed he has put he previous ship as "R Kelly" registered in N.YK and the port he discharged from was Liverpool. I'm assuming the "R Kelly" is the "Robert Kelly" registered in New York, which appears to be a passanger ship that travels between new york and Liverpool. So my question is how do I find the crew list for ships registered in New York in 1856 and would the seaman's previous ship information be listed. Thanks for any help.
