It is REALLY hard. I am having the same trouble. During that time Canada did not keep very good records. If you don't have a paying account on Ancestry like a lot of us, you could watch for the free access from time to time. I just found an ancestor over this past free access. https://www.familysearch.org/ has free tutorials that are very good. It is under "Learn" and then scroll down to "Research Courses", and then pick your country, and subject. Once you click into the course, many of them have a "class handout" that you can print and and/or save for later. I took a few and they are very useful, easy to follow and hear. Good luck.
