Hi Paul,
We were on the S.S.Waterman that arrived in Cape Town on 19-12-1953 from Holland (not 18th)
My mother was Johanna(nee Langenberg)and she passed away three years ago aged 83.
My brother Willem Hendrik now lives in Auckland, New Zealand.
My own name, Christiaan Johannes and I remember the hot chocolate we got on board whilst in the Northern Hemisphere and our walk in Las Palmas. Also the musicians that came to the quayside and the bags with bread they got from the ship.
The crossing of the equator was traumatic for us children.

Mrs. Alie Dienaar and her son Fred were also on board but went back to Holland after a few years.

Our fathers were allready in South Africa and had flown to South Africa on the William Dempster flight that had engine trouble leaving Schiphol and they had to do an emergency landing in Libya near Tobruk. They came out for Sasol and we lived in Vanderbijlpark first. Where in the world are you now?

Groetjes vanuit Kaapstad,
Chris
