Hi David and thanks for your support in sorting the rogue posting on my thread. To be honest, I did look into what he'd put and couldn't find any reference so gave up on that one!

Thank you too Fiona. And a massive thank you to you both for your ideas and suggestions. I've already found what you'd put - Ellen was my great grandmother (my mum's side). Her daughter (from her second marriage to Keen) is still alive and we're really trying to find out more to fill in some gaps.

We know that Ellen's mum, Phoebe, took some of her children to the States but just can't find any record of it actually happening. We were told it was around 1905/6. You are right, Phoebe had another daughter (Alice) apparently shortly before emigrating. We don't know why she left her husband (and some still young children) and have always wondered about this. We know she remarried in the USA and was very active with the Salvation Army (who have been unable to help unfortunately). I think this might be a mystery that never gets solved really. We do know that the children she took with her stayed in touch with each other, but apparently not with anyone left in England.
