Hi can anyone help me ?

I have an ancestor who, according to the UK census, was born in Germany - about 1845 - but states he was a British Subject....

I have asked at the British International Births section of the Register Office, and there is no record of his birth.

His father is named as James ENOCH, according to his marriage certificate, in 1870, when he marries in Yorkshire, England.

Could he be a child born to British parents living abroad and if so :-

1. Would he have had to be registered in Germany and if so, why was he not registered in Engalnd when he came here ?

I am assuming is parents brought him back to the UK but can't be sure of this as I have no way of knowing when ?

2. Could he be German and taken British Citizenship when he came here ???

ANYONE WITH ANY THEORIES .... please post, here... I would be eternally grateful.....
Ships from England to America - 1915+

I'm researching my paternal side of my tree. My grandaddy Lionel was born (2nd child of William and Jane Buckley) on 24 Jun 1901 in Yorkshire England.

I've been told that he left home as young as he could and traveled around the world on ships. My aunt tells me that he was a purser on a ship called "The Atlantida".

I have found that he immigrated from Calcutta India to Ellis Island, New York on one of his trips.

My aunt has said that he ended up on a ship in New Orleans Louisiana and went to work and became an American Citizen. Married my grandmother 02 Nov 1929 in New Orleans.

If anyone could suggest online sites that I could search, or any leads to trace where my grandfather traveled in his young life, I would greatly appreciate.
Hello,

I am looking for a great "x" uncle - Ebenezer Holland who was a printer. He married a Sarah Jane Chant in Yeovil in 1876 and they were both 21 years of age.
He had been living in St. Albans Oxford as a printer. He came back to Somerset for the marriage.

After the 1876 marriage they seem to disappear off the radar. Folks in the family think that Ebenezer and Sarah Jane HOLLAND went to New Zealand. (Perhaps, Australia). There is one Ebenezer Holland whose probate I secured - but he is the wrong one - his wife was Norah (I think) and this man was a harbour signalman.

Thank you for your help.

ciao bene for now,

Laura
Josiah HARRIS with spouse emigrated to Sweden abt 1834

Im searching for Josiah Harris, who emigrated to Sweden in 1834. He appears in Undenäs parish in late 1834, but with no other notice than "place of origin: England".
However, it has been said in the family that he was of Scotish origin.
He and his wife, Mary, are one of the last families to arrive in Undenäs that year, and in the parish book of births there is a notice of a dauther born in 1834. However it is more likely that she is born in the UK or on their way to Undenäs - perhaps in some other Swedish parish. How and when the emigrated I have no record of, and I have no knowledge of the most common ways of emigration from the UK to Sweden was, but perhaps they emigrated via Göteborg (Gothenburg)?

Josiah is, in the immigration book, to be born in 1808 and Mary in 1809, but where?
In the death certificate/"book of death" of Undenäs, he is said to died on 5 of November in 1859 at the age of 51 years 5 months and 27 days, which means that he should be born 1808-05-09 (May fifth).

If anyone has ANY information on the family of Josiah and Mary Harris, I am open to ANY suggestion!

with regards // Martin Bergström

Im researching a branch of the family that emigrated from Russia to England circa 1880's. Im after Jacob Rosenblum whos birthdate is circa 1876 - 1878. I have found 2 entries for Jacob Rosenblum in the 1901 England census - both state that he was born in Russia but I have two differing birthdates - 1876 and 1878.
I guess Im after passenger lists but I cant seem to locate a site or records.
Anyone have any tips?

Possible Illegal immigration?

Hi there need a bit of advice.

I'm tracing back the family name 'Hemmerman'. In the 1901 census my family come up, but before then they don't appear on any census, even though they were all born England.

Now this surname is very very unusual and we think it could be from Germany, could it be that the family immigrated illegally and thats why theres no trace of their parents?

I wouldn't of thought that illegal immigrants would appear on census because of their status.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks very much!!

Hi
Does anyone know of any lists of passport applications for the years 1847/8. There are plenty online from 1852.
Anyone know of any online for these years.
I am looking for a man with the strange name of Morenzy. He was born 1832 in Durham, or so he said.
His name may be corruption of De Montmorency. That is why I need to look through a list to see if any name is a possibility. He went to USA to study to be a surgeon in 1848.
Cheers
M Head

Ok all, this is the thing; according to the 1841 census my g-g-g-g-grandmother (Mary Strevett) was born in "Foreign Parts" and according to the 1851 census is listed as being born as "Lisbon, British Subject"

Anyone able to tell me how I can find information relating to her immigration (presumably from Portugal and not Ireland as her daughter was named Maria) will be on my Christmas card list for a long time!

But now the problem: she was listed as married (to George)in the '41 census and I can't find the marriage in the BMD lists so I'm assuming they were married pre 1837 or overseas pre 1841.

Any thoughts, anyone......

Paul
