Hi
My G Aunt May Harrison travelled to the USA to look after her niece. Her sister Jessie passed away, so May went to the USA to care for her child. The story is that she had to marry her sister's husband before she could land. Previously Jessie married the same man John E anderson on landing at Ellis island.
I have found the marriage record for Jessie to John but cannot find the record for May to marry him. Did they have to marry before they were allowed entry into the country, or was there another way they could enter.
I have sailing records for both of the ladies, Jessie arrived in 1916 and May in 1919.
Can anyone advise of where to look now.
Is it because they were inlaws that they may have not had to get married.
cheers
