Thanks for your response! My mother found some more information overnight from family records - apparently Eliza was born in Providence, Rhode Island ()British Subject) on September 3, 1872. Her father was Edward Chadwick and mother Mark (maiden name Jackson). The were from Oldhave, Lancashire, England and returned sometime after Eliza was born and before 1877. Mary died in childbirth, although we are not sure when - someone a long time ago thought they found a record of her in Rhode Island, being buried in 1874. Any assistance tracing these records would be very greatly appreciated by this novice.
