Help find naturalization record from number on passenger list
Hello everyone,
I have a passenger list that has a number written on it next to the person's name. I've read that this number references the naturalization record, as at this time, the INS had to pull the passenger record to verify the person's information.
I then sent a request on to National Archives - Chicago but they said this was not a petition identifier. If it's not an ID for the petition, what else could it be? Jadwiga / Hedwig Budnik would likely have been married by the date shown so her surname would be different. However, I'd hope the identifier could get me into the record.
Here's the info:
Jadwiga / Hedwig Budnik
Passenger list (last line on the list):
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipManifest.asp?MID=05490...
Near the name, to the right a few columns, you'll see a number:
8-253081-3/30/42
Those codes match up with Detroit Circuit Court which would be the correct location. That seems like it should be plenty of information to find the record, which is why I'm surprised that the National Archives couldn't find the record.
Can anyone help? This seems like it should be easy.
