My 2X Grandfather Nicolaus Isleb(Isleib) migrated to the US shortly before 1851. Looking from Emmigration records from Germany or immigration records arriving in US.

First appears with the birth of a son in Van Buren Cty, Michigan. Sept 1851.

Appears he may have either arrived on the US east coast. Traveled to the Erie Canal. To the Great Lakes.
OR
Arrived in Canada. Traveled using the St Lawrence to the Detroit area. Crossing into US there. Land route by railroad, wagon or foot to Van Buren(Paw Paw).

OR a variety of the above.

Can not seem to find anything on his entry which leads me to think he came by way of Canada. Very little records of entry to US via Canada before 1865.

Anybody out there have ideas?
