Unfortunately... missing Boston passenger list years... 1880 is one of them... (fire damage) :(
It would help if Ancestry had a bold message regarding missing passenger lists. I've fallen into this trap a few times... all it takes is a few words saying
"Missing years: 1 April 1874-31 December 1882"
It would save all of us time.

If you decide to search on film, and know the name of his parents, you never know, he could have left with them since he was about 14 years old.. I've seen 14 year olds travel on their own too.
Do you have most of his Naturalization documents... ? I have access to his petition and declaration.
