Palatine Loyalists/Tories
"My" Palatines came to New York State in 1710 via England, courtesy of Queen Ann. A long, sad story. Their first winter they lived on boiled grass & wild game. )I always think of them when the weather turns cold and I start complaining.)
Along came the American Revolution. "My" Palatines had signed an oath of allegiance to the Crown at the time of their indenture. The family split; some stayed loyal to the Crown, others did not. The "Loyalists" lost everything they had worked for. King George granted them land in Canada.
Then came the St Lawrence Seaway project, flooding the homes, farms and cemeteries of my ancestors and further splitting families.
Just some thoughts on a cold winter's morning...
