Can anyone help me with tracing a Mary ALTIMES who married a Matthew ALLEN in Kilmallock Church, Co Limerick in 1834.
I know ALTIMES (aka ALTON) is a Palatine name and I found Mary's marriage to Matthew ALLEN for 31 Mar 1834 Kilflyn in the Irish Records Extraction Database and a further entry in records of the Kilmallock Church records that reads "1834 March 31st - Matthew Allen and Mary Altimes both of Glanosheen in the Parish of Particles and the Union of Kilmallock by publication of Banns in Kilmallock Church and with the consent of the Revd [T F Jabbett?] assistant curate there. Edward Herbert.
But I can't find any prior records for Mary or Matthew in Limerick. Mary gives her birth variously between 1813-1821 in Kilmain/Limerick and she and Matthew (b 1816-1821 Kilmain/Limerick) left Ireland for Bristol England about 1841 before settling in East London around 1846-9. They had two children who were born in Limerick - James b1835/7 and Peter b1837/8 and another seven children later born in England and baptised in the Catholic faith, one of whom is my GG Grandmother. I'm assuming Mary as a Palatine is Protestant, that Matthew was Catholic and that was the deal for mixed marriages, for the children to be brought up in the Catholic faith?
Mary's sister Frances ALTIMES b 1816-1826 in Limerick was married in England in 1847 to a James Rohan, giving her name as Frances ALTON and her father as George ALTON deceased.
This is the first branch of my family born in Ireland and I'm not very familiar with researching the Irish records. I have seen ALTIMES/ALTON in Griffiths and on headstones but until I can establish who Mary's (or Frances) parents are I'm stuck. I'd be very grateful if anyone can help. Rgds Wendy
