I'm looking for help with details about my grandfather, born Johan Severin Martinsson, 29 January,1879. Family stories are that he was from Bohuslan, but his family also owned a farm known as(or in) Rolanda. He may have been born there. As a young man, he served in the Swedish Navy as a ships carpenter. He emigrated to the US as a single man, arriving in New York 27 May,1902(?). I know he had a brother "Gust"/Gustav/August who also emigrated to the US before him. They had several siblings who stayed in Sweden, whose descendants still own the farm @ Rolanda as far as I know.
He changed his name in America to John Severin Johnson and became a Naturalized Citizen 24 January,1908 in Chicago,IL. He married Elsa Edgren 25 February,1911. I believe she was from Stockholm & born in 1885. They had 2 children- Eleanor Sylvia(1912) & John S,Jr(1921). Eleanor & John Sr. went back to visit relatives after WWII.
Any details would be appreciated. Please note that I don't know Swedish or 'Genealogist Lingo' although I'm sure I could decipher either ;=) Bob Johnson [bojonson.co"at"gmail.com]
