Locating Port of Arrival and/or Ship for Slovak ancestors

Can anyone tell me which were the most common ports or immigration routes into the U.S. for Slovak immmigrants who settled in Fairport Harbor, Ohio or the Great Lakes region in general?

One of my ancestors, John Poytosh (sometimes spelled Paytosh) arrived in the U.S. on Apr. 11, 1888, according to his naturalization record. His older brother George Paytosh/Poytosh, arrived about 12 years earlier. I've checked several databases available online with no luck, so I am trying to find alternate ways to locate the ship name or passenger manifest for the Paytosh/Poytosh family. I hope to get some hints on where in Slovakia/Hungary the Poytosh/Paytosh family emigrated from.

Where to start looking for Bohemian documentation

I've been very successful tracking parts of my family back 10 generations. However, my last name is Seyba, and it's giving me quite a few problems. I've tracked it to my great-grandfather who was born in New York. All of the other census cards I've found list people with that last name as being born in Bohemia. Can anyone give recommendations or point me in the right direction to track records from Bohemia? I've run into quite a few dead ends. I was told that the last name might have been shortened or changed when my family immigrated here but I haven't been able to find records on that either. Any hints or pointers would be much appreciated.

My ancestors were in Riga (Latvia) at the beginning of 1891. In August of that year I've located them in the US immigration regords as having gone by ship from Rotterdam (Netherlands) via.Amsterdam (Holland) via. Boulogna (France) to New York City (USA), arricing at NYC on 6th August on the ship Werkendam.
While I have this second leg of their trip placed, I do not know how/when they got from Riga to Rotterdam.
They were a Jewish family surname Witz - Samuel, Schiena/Jennie, Hirsch/Harry and Chaya/Ida.
Any thoughts as to how to learn this mirgation route?

John Tuz from Austria

I am searching for a John Tuz, according to the death cert for one of his son's and the 1920 census, from Austria. The 1920 census shows him as at alien still at this point and having immigrated in 1896. He married Nellie Cole about 1900 in CT, most likely Litchfield or Fairfield County. They are in Newtown, Fairfield for 1920 census. John and Nellie had 9 children. If you have information regarding this family, or helpful hints on where to investigate (already checked ellisisland.org), it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Mike

My Minarovich grandmother (Martha) was born in 1886 , my grandfather Ciskanik (Stephen) was born in 1886
They both lived in NYC.

The only Ciskaniks on the rootsweb tree are the ones I added. I am seeking any others.

Hi! I am trying to find out about my grandparents, Raymond Joseph Rubena, and Amelia Londin Rubena. I am not sure when the immigrated to the US, but they had a baby son that died on the boat on the way over. I know it was before 1926 because that is when my dad was born. He died when I was 8.
