Classification: Query
Surnames: Mamrosh, Sucha, Kuryla, Rydzyk, Futko, Chutko
Tracing my mother's family has proven to be a challenge, but I'll summarize what I know and perhaps find someone with a common interest. I'm also going to include the alternative spellings I've come across, so even if you don't know the families perhaps you can help me with the names. All the individuals would routinely identify Austria as their home land, sometimes including a reference to Galicia. To my knowledge they all considered themselves Ukranian. (My Italian wife is the keeper of the secret family Paska recipe!)
My Grandfather is Trofy Mamrosh (Trofym, Mamrosz). His parents are identified as Porifry Mamrosh and Olena Rydyk. I can't find the name Porifry anywhere and suspect it is significantly mis-spelled. It's also been suggested the family name is not Ukranian? He arrived around 1880, worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines, perhaps Shenadoah, PA. Around 1899 he moved to Jersey City.
His first wife was Anna Kuryla. Her parents were Peter Kuryla and Rosalya Derbjanczyk. She apparently was from the town of Wysowa, which is now in Poland. She arrived here in 1895 and died in Jersey City in 1915. They had seven children.
His second wife, my grandmother, was Celia Sucha. Her parents were Paul Suchy and Paraska Futko (Chutko). She arrived around 1915 and lived in Jersey City until her death in 1950. They had 4 children.
Celia had three sisters. Emilia marries Joseph Rozanski (Ruzansky)and resides in Jersey City - they had six children. Katarzyna (Kate) marries William Butch and resides in Newark NJ - no children. Marya (Mary) marries George Gontchauk and resides in Queens, NY - they had two children. After George dies around 1932 she marries a Felstya - they have two children.
