Hi Brian, How fantastic and kind of you - well you certainly came up trumps on my query. I do actually have quite a mystery to solve within my family tree and I wonder whether you might be able to throw some light on how to progress. I did post a message some years ago about her but nothing came up - and unfortunately what I will append below is all I have - unfortunately.
Some correspondence and photographs were found in a great aunt's house following her demise and since I strarted on the family tree it became apparent that my ggg grandmother emigrated to the USA in 1855 with two of her daughters and her son in-law. I have fortunately found quite a lot of information out about them. But this particular person from Milwakee is a bit of a mystery!
Her letters dated around 1927 are addressed to my g grandmother a Mary Walters who lived again in Llandysul, Cardiganshire. This lady - Mary Thomas lived in Milwaukee Wisconsin and gave her address as 56-34th Street. She refers to her "father's people" and that his mother's name was Mary. He had a sister Mary who married a Mr. Davies of London (quite a lot of Welsh folk went to London with the surname Davies!!) Apparently this Mary and Mr. Davies had three sons. There was also a brother - a minister possibly the name Dave (David) who had a daughter named Mae. She goes on to say that her father also had a brother Tom and John. John lived in Stockton-on-tees, England and in one letter she does refer to him following his visit to Mary in Milwakee sometime between 1910 and 1915. Also there could be a sister Ann who lived in Wales - but this is only an impression.
How is that for a mystery? I have tried and tried to find USA census for this Mary Thomas - her photograph shows her with a 16 year old niece - Jane Thomas - but I cannot age Mary accurately and as far as I can see she had no wedding ring on - but of course when the photo was taken is impossible to say?
This Mary Thomas does sign off as a "cousin" to Mary Walters in one letter - but I cannot identify her at the moment?
If you could throw some light as to where I should go next I would be most grateful - every little bit of information is a step nearer to finding my family in the USA.
Thank you once again for your contribution.
