I have since found out some very useful information.

Gillian Rees somehow met Stephen Wallis (who was in the army). Gillian became pregnant at a young age and in 1974 she married Stephen in Sunderland area (I have located records and am obtain ing a copy of the marriage cert at the mo). They lived within the "Gilley Law" council estate in the block of flats.

Gillian then sadley died a matter of hours after she gave birth in approx Oct/Nov/Dec 1974. The child was named Steve Wallis (I have located a birth registration). That means that if Steve is still around, he is 34 now. We presume that Stephen was a couple of years older then Alice, so he could still be alive now - early 50's.

If anybody is reading this who knows any info or knows the people involved, Christine (Gill's sister, my mother) would love to hear from them. When Steven was born my mother went to visit with her previous husband, Alan Gerrard, but she lost contact.
