Recently I spent a few minutes looking at UELAC list of known UEL . On the M page alone it only took me 5 minutes to locate several of my UE ancestors , but they all were listed under different spellings then many researchers may have looked for . Many of those listed were of Scottish or Irish heritage [same holds true for German and other non first language English speakers] , their names were recorded by persons who did their best and wrote the names phonetically , and many of the first settlers retained that same spelling to ensure they retained their UE status . Later generations have adopted slightly varied spellings .
William McGloughlin aka William McLaughlin
David McCuin Sr. & Jr. aka David McEwen Sr. & Jr.
John McLeland aka John McLennan
I can provide a few others: Gollenger aka Gallinger ; Prenties aka Prentice . Hope this helps some of you with brickwalls .
