Thanks to all of you who have replied to my orig. message here and my apologies for not getting back sooner.
I am sorry to see so many of us have this disease that seems to go unrecognized by mainstream doctors and yet is apparently more common than folks realize.
I believe (at least here in Nor. America) that is because the Pharmaceutical companies so strongly influence the choices our healthcare systems make and if something can't be fixed by a pill then its not considered a problem by our mainstream healthcare.
In other words, if all one has to do is Stop eating particular foods in order to eliminate the pains and sufferings, there is no need for the doctors, so they don't often go after searching for those types of diagnoses.
My advice and this is strictly my own opinions, ones can choose to do things in their own ways of course, but if anyone is suffering from heartburn, swollen stomachs (bloating etc.) after heavily carbohydrate laden meals...my suggestion would be to STOP eating ALL Wheat, rye, barley (yes that means beer too), malt and sometimes Oats (no oatmeal for breakfast or oatmeal cookies or granola bars etc.), for TWO WEEKS, just a simple TWO Weeks...and see if you get any better. IF IF IF, you find that you are no longer having the severe acid reflux or severe stomach bloating and the pains that you were having, CHANCES are you MIGHT have Celiac disease and that stopping eating those grains I just mentioned above, will be the answer to your problems.
This is NOT however always the case and sometimes you can have other serious problems that you will need to seek out professional medical attention on, but I say what have you got to lose but Perhaps your stomach aches and pains, for a simple two week trial period.
It literally took me 6 months to get my system straightned out but I am older and had been a serious carbo-holic and probably done a lot of damage to my intestines, so it took me longer to heal up.
I ate plain yogurt and sometimes plain vanilla yogurt and Kefir to get the Good bacterias back into my stomach again and I drank 2 ounces each morning of 100% Pure Aloe Vera juice each day and that was it. And I DO make this claim because it Worked for me, but it CURED my acid reflux!! I had Terrible Acid Reflux...contantly clearing my throat and buring throat etc. and a simple 2 ounces (NO more than that)once a day in the morning before breakfast, of 100% PURE Aloe juice (available in some grocery stores or health food stores), cured my acid reflux. It is now gone and if it does come back because I've over eaten something, I drink that juice and again, its gone! Not to mention it takes the fire out of the heartburn too...for Me anyway...this may not be the case for anyone else, but this is what worked for me.
I eat smaller meals now and not so much sugar, sugar will cause acid reflux big time, and it keeps your system in a constant state of Acidity and the human body should be more towards the alkaline side...Balance is the key always.
NO I do Not work for any companies that make these products, I am retired and through much research and trial and errors on my own found these things that have worked for me for the last several years.
My husband has been stomach pain and bloating free and acid reflux free as well from these things we have found as a result of our research and the help of others.
We also found that we were both Lactose intolerant (cannot drink milk) as well. We now drink a name brand Organic Lactose Free milk that have No BGH's in it (bovine growth hormones) and it seems to be working out for us as well, However I will add this...I recently had a whalloping head cold/sinuses etc. and milk products tend to make mucous membranes go crazy, so I had to lay off the milk altogether.
I am trying to get off milk anyway, and have found the Rice Milk works wonders for me. My choice is Rice Dreams because it is Gluten Free and has a small label on the front saying so, and while it may take some getting used to, I find it very good on my gluten free cereals with sliced banana's or blueberries tossed over it and don't miss the sugar or milk at all in these instances. Also the rice milk makes great mashed potatoes as well and the potatoes actually taste more potato-ey if that makes any sense.
My husband and I have learned that we have to Constantly READ the LABELING on Foods because they Change them. You cannot rely on the same products to always have the same ingredients in them and with the economy being what its been lately, it seems that cuts are being made everywhere, and we have noticed it in the foods we eat as well.
So if you are a Celiac person be sure to constantly Check those Labels. However, I have noticed that a Lot more products are coming out that are Wheat Free/Gluten Free and I can't say THANK YOU enough to these folks. I've just discovered a brand of Crackers that Actually has a Cracker texture (Glutino brand), and for those of us who really missed our carbs, these are the best I've tried so far and I hope they will continue to make these. I like the Plain ones the best so far as you can add your own flavors to the top of them which I prefer since some of the Spices used in foods seem to upset my stomach.
That's all for now, and thanks again to those of you who responded. I am sorry to hear that you have Celiac disease too, but I think that the more of us who come out of the woodwork and let them know we are here, the better it is for us as there is a Market for our needs for food supply.
Annie's, Pamela's, Glutino, Nature's Path, Vann's, Kinnikinnick (makes great pizza doughs etc.), and all of the other Wheat Free/Gluten Free manufacturer's out there I personally Thank You. These are some of my favorites.
And before I forget, from my orig. posting, the name of that book that I forgot the author's last name on...its called "The Gluten Free Kitchen" by Roben Ryberg and its my Favorite book of all for recipes because its so easy and its the kind of food that most of us probably eat, simple and using ingredients that as Celiac's we will already have in our gluten free kitchens.
