What does "fifth generation" mean?

I found my baby book containing several newspaper accounts of my birth (what can I say? It was a big deal).
Two articles refer to me as being "fifth generation". One centered on my maternal grandfather, the other on my paternal grandmother, so no connection there. They lived in two different towns and the articles were from their respective local papers.

Not 5th generation in Tennessee, that is closer to 9th. Not in US, that goes back to 1671. Thought maybe the Masons (maternal grandfather) but, as far as I know, no Masons on my father's side (could be wrong). Both sides went to different churches....

Any other ideas on what this could be?

Thanks
