There is a German word entgelt which means charged, or paid - Dutch and German are similar so could that be relevant?
The story abut the angelic captives isn't true. In Roman times the country was known as Britannia. It only became England in the 8th or 9th century when the Saxons united the different kingdoms, and the name England comes from the Angles who were a Germanic tribe from Angeln.
