I've checked the census for 1851, 1871 and 1881, and this is all that I could come up with:

In 1851, there was a Henry Douglass (age 15) in Ancaster Township (Twp # 390, p.151, reel # C11758):
http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1851_pdf/e095/e002373464.p...

(There's no Henry Douglas (one 's'); the personal census for some townships is missing, or incomplete, though)

In 1871, no mention of a Henry Douglass, but there are four Henry Douglas, although none in the Hamilton area, and none appear to be the Henry Douglass from 1851.

In 1881, according to Familysearch.org, we possibly have your Henry Douglass in Owen Sound, Ontario: Henry A. Douglas (one 's') born 1845, occupation merchant, married to Alice E. Douglas.

You may in the end want to consider contacting the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society:
http://www.hwcn.org/link/HBOGS/Researchservices.html

I could check the Spectator for you, but it may be a while before I go to the library to do more research.

Hope this helps,
Ken
Have you made any progress with this. I believe there were at least two newspapers in Hamilton at the time. The Hamilton Spectator was the main newspaper, and is the only one still published; I believe there are a few gaps, but more than likely the edition that should contain a death notice for Henry Douglass exists. If I recall correctly, the death notices from this time period are not all that detailed, and any further mention of his death is unlikely unless he was fairly well known or met a tragic end.

Ken
http://ca.geocities.com/scheffkg.rm/gen.html

Eva Marie Demers (Demars) born in 1873 either in Portland, Maine or Westbrook, Maine. Father Antione or John, mother was Phebe or Sarah or Salma.
BElIEVE: to have married a David Anderson of Kings County, Aylesford, Nova Scotia. We do know she married an Anderson for sure. (can't find marriage certificate)
FACT: Eva and David Anderson had two children David in 1893 and Nina in 1896 (but can't find birth records)
FACT: A David Anderson of Aylesford Station died on April 28, 1897. Stated in The Aylesford Union of 1897(Can't find an obituary with greater detail)
FACT: Mrs Eva Anderson of Aylesford (widow) married a Frank Spicer of Berwick, Nova Scotia on March 26, 1898. Married by the Baptist minister, Rev. Simpsom. From the Nova Scotia Historical Vital Stats(Do not know if this is the Eva Demers that had lost her husband David Anderson)
Fact: Nina Anderson and bother David S Anderson is living with their grandmother, Susannah Anderson, in Aylesford (Dempsey Corner) according to the 1901 Canada Census.(Do not know where their mother Eva was since she is not listed)
Fact: Eva Anderson, Nina and David S came to Boston in 1902. Verified by the Manifest of the ship called Boston.

As can be seen I have information that is very interesting but can not be conclusive in most parts. Any help would be appreciated. I have found a great deal of help from the Annapolis Valley Newspaper Extract Project but not any conclusive evidence. Have emailed the Kings County Historical Society but nothing has been heard.
Thank you so very much!
Thank you for your response. I have had no further action on finding an obituary, but I do appreciate you sending me the name of the newspaper in Hamilton. I will check further when I get an opportunity but expect as you said, it is probably a simple announcement. I was hoping since he was a grocer and perhaps had lived in the area for years, there might be a little more than just the bare facts.
Again I appreciate your response. He married Eva Perrins. His obit mentions a son, David in Edmonton, a daughter, Susan in Moose Jaw, a sister, Mrs. D.R. Peachy in Regina and his father, G. Jordon in Shellbrook, SK as well as 3 grandchildren. Also a son, not named, that predeceased him.
Please let me know if there is a connection, I am researching the Perrins family. I have copies of the obits if they are connected.

I don’t have a subscription to the Toronto Star either.

If you search “Pages of the Past”…

http://pagesofthepast.ca/Default.asp

Search term = McBride, Start Date = 1993 and October, Date Range = 1 Month, and Page Content = Births/Deaths/Obits, there is one hit on October 13th. But if you add Eldon as an additional Search Term, there are no hits, suggesting that the death found on the 13th was not for Eldon.

You can buy a one hour subscription to “Pages of the Past” (click Subscriptions) for $3.95… or perhaps your local library may have a subscription, or you could inter library loan a microfilm of the Toronto Star from the National Library in Ottawa.

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/8/18/r18-213-e.html

You can search Globe & Mail births and deaths back to 1998…

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/birthsanddeaths/
