I have recently come across an August, 1867 letter in which
a Tennessee Methodist minister promises (in return for a kind gift of 4 live chickens!)to have an obituary of John W. Nichol (died Fulton Co., KY, September 1866) published in The (Nashville) Christian Advocate, a weekly paper covering Methodist matters regionally. John W. Nichol, elder brother of my gg-grandfather, was the only family member born in NC; I have tried for 40 years to locate the NC homestead, and to identify who John's mother was.
In his excellent "Abstracts from Methodist Publications", which is available online, Jonathan K. T. Smith is missing extracts of The Christian Advocate from 1862 through 1868; the TN State Library and Archives are missing the same issues.
Does anyone out there know where I might be able to find issues of this paper published in the latter part of 1867?
Thanks for any suggestions!
